Hi. My name is Shawn Custer, of Custer Editing Services fame (okay, "fame" might be a bit of a stretch). I hold two degrees: a BA in English and an MA in English and Creative Writing, specializing in fiction. I am a published author, and while I still do some creative writing, my main focus for the last decade has been teaching, educational writing, and editing.

Line editing
Line editing involves reviewing the style, word choice, sentence structure, and flow of the text. It also includes checking for inconsistencies (was your main character blonde in Chapter 2 and brunette in Chapter 5?) and ensuring that the writing flows smoothly from sentence to sentence and paragraph to paragraph.
Copyediting
Copyediting is a technical, sentence-level review of the text. It includes editing for correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and consistent formatting.
Proofreading is the last round of editing before the manuscript is ready for publication. It is a final review to catch anything that may have been missed in earlier edits, crossing all the t's and dotting all the i's.
